You’ve probably seen them before, the little weird-looking squares. These are called QR codes (Quick Response Code) and can be scanned with the camera on your iPhone, iPod and iPad. Well more specifically, an app uses the camera to scan the code.

Perian had a goal to become the Swiss army knife of video codecs for QuickTime; even though the developers have stopped developing it, saying they attained their goal, it is still a great plugin that I use everyday. With Perian installed, you should be able to play everything from DivX/AC3 to FLV to VBR/MP3. Personally however, I don’t use Perian to play video, I use it to help convert my videos to iTunes.

Maybe you have your Apple TV connected to your laptop or have a large file downloading. If you close your lid while doing anything that needs your laptop to be awake, it will stop when your Mac goes to sleep. Luckily, just because Apple won’t give us the option to keep certain programs running when the lid is down, doesn’t mean that someone else won’t.
